Good/ True Muslim

Salaam brothers and sisters,

Doing good and having the right belief go hand in hand in Islam. In fact, doing good in practice is the proof of having the right belief in the heart. This is why the Holy Quran speaks of true Muslims very often as "those who believe and do good deeds". Both the Quran and the Holy Prophet have told Muslims that the best among them is that person who shows the best behavior towards other people.

Below we give, in the words of the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet Muhammad, the chief qualities a Muslim should display:

1. Truthfulness:

"O you who believe! keep your duty to Allah and speak straight, true words." (Holy Quran 33:70)

"O you who believe, keep your duty to Allah, and be with the truthful people." (9:119)

"Be maintainers of justice and bearers of true witness for Allah, even if it (the truth) goes against your own selves or parents or relatives or someone who is rich or poor." (4:135)

2. Sincerity:

"Serve Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience." (39:2)

"It is most hateful in the sight of Allah that you say things which you do not do." (61:3)

"Woe to those who pray but are unmindful of their prayers, who do good to be seen." (107:4-6)

3. Unselfishness:

"You cannot attain to righteousness unless you spend (in charity) out of those things which you love." (3:91)

"They (the true believers) give food, out of love for Allah, to the poor, the orphan and the slave, saying: We feed you only for Allah's pleasure - we desire from you neither reward nor thanks." (76:8-9)

"Do no favour seeking gain." (74:6)

4. Humility:

"The servants of the Beneficent (Allah) are those who walk on the earth in humility." (25:63)

"Do not turn your face away from people in contempt, nor go about in the land exultingly." (31:18)

"Do not ascribe purity to yourselves. Allah knows best who is righteous." (53:32)

5. Patience:

"Allah loves those who are patient." (3:145)

"Give good news to the patient, who, when a misfortune befalls them, say: We are Allah's and to Him do we return." (2:155-156)

6. Forgiveness:

"Pardon (people) and overlook (their faults). Don't you love that Allah should forgive you." (24:22)

"(The dutiful are) . . . those who restrain their anger and pardon people. Allah loves those who do good to others." (3:134)

"Whenever they (true believers) are angry they forgive." (42:37)

"The recompense of evil is punishment like it. But whoever forgives (an evil committed against himself) and amends (matters), his reward is with Allah. . . . Whoever is patient and forgives, that is a matter of great resolution." (42:40, 43)

When the Holy Prophet Muhammad defeated his enemies in Makka and returned to that city as its conqueror, he forgave them in the following words:

"No reproof be against you this day; Allah may forgive you, and He is the most Merciful of those who show mercy." (12:92)

7. Purity and cleanliness:

"He indeed is successful who purifies himself (in mind and body), and remembers the name of his Lord, then prays." (87:14-15)

"Purify your garments and shun uncleanness." (74:4-5)

8. Honesty:

"Don't go near the property of an orphan, except in a goodly way, till he attains maturity. And fulfil the promise (you make) . . .. Give full measure when you measure out, and weigh with a true balance." (17:34-35)

"Do not swallow up your property among yourselves by false means, nor offer it as a bribe to the officials so that you may swallow up other people's property unlawfully while you know." (2:188)

9. Goodness and kindness to others:

"Allah commands you to uphold justice and to do good to others and to give to the relatives." (16:90)

Three degrees of doing good are mentioned here: "justice," which means returning any good that someone has done you with equal good; "do good to others," which means taking the initiative in doing good to others; and "give to the relatives," which means doing good to people instinctively and naturally just as one does good to one's close relatives.

"Do good to others, surely Allah loves those who do good to others." (2:195)

10. Consideration and respect for others:

"O you who believe! do not enter houses other than your own until you have asked permission and greeted the inmates . . . and if it is said to you, 'Go back', then go back." (24:27-28)

"O you who believe! avoid most of suspicion (against others), for surely suspicion in some cases is sin; and do not spy (into other people's affairs), nor let some of you backbite others." (49:12)

"When you are greeted with a greeting, greet with one better than it, or return it (in the same terms at least)." (4:86)

11. Courage:

Speaking of a small number of Muslims facing a big and powerful enemy, the Quran relates:

"Those to whom men said: people have gathered against you, so fear them; but this increased their faith, and they said: Allah is sufficient for us and He is an excellent Guardian." (3:173)

12. Moderation:

"Eat and drink, but do not be immoderate." (7:31)

"Do not chain your hand to your neck (so that you are mean in spending), nor stretch it out to the utmost limit (so that you waste everything)." (17:29)

Regarding the performance of religious duties, the Holy Prophet has given the following advice:

"Religion is easy, but anyone who exerts himself too much in religious devotions will get overcome by it; so you should just act rightly, and keep to the mean, and be of good cheer, and ask for Allah's help morning, evening, and a part of the night." (Bukhari.)

13. Cheerfulness:

"Be of good cheer." (Holy Prophet in Bukhari.)

"It is an act of charity to meet your fellow with a cheerful face." (Holy Prophet in Mishkat.)

Finally, we give a verse of the Holy Quran mentioning a number of qualities a Muslim, man or woman, should try to acquire:

"The truthful men and the truthful women, the patient men and the patient women, the humble men and the humble women, the charitable men and the charitable women, the fasting men and the fasting women, the men who guard their chastity and the women who guard their chastity, the men who remember Allah much and the women who remember Allah much - for all these Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward." (33:35)

May ALLAH (s.w.t) make us among the True believers and grant us Jannat Firdaus....Ameen!

Hijab tips

1. Wear fashionable clothing. You will look amazing. Preferably wear something that is currently in style or is your own trendy look. Don't be afraid of bright colors. Muslims can be beautiful yet modest. Wear a long tunic over flare jeans.

2. Accessorize! Add glasses, headbands, hats and jewels (only to be seen with your husband or when attending women only events) to your look. Long pearls and bangles are very effective ways to make an outfit. Take caution with belts though. It is true that belts around the waist are in style currently but they may draw attention to the chest! If you are a strong Muslim you will not do this. However they can be worn closer to the hips in their proper place!

3. Hijab is the key! You don't have to wear the same hijab all the time. It's fine to mix it up a little. It's very easy to get comfortable in the hijab that you like best. A new style every now and then is recommended.

4. Get matching Hijab colors. Get colors that match with your outfit, and try out all the different kinds of scarves available. There are kinds that you wrap around your face and hold up with a pin, and others that consist of a headpiece and a larger piece on top. Try mixing and matching colors (i.e. blue jeans, green shirt, and green scarf with blue headpiece)

5. Know that your eyes are vital. Since your face is framed and there is nothing to draw attention away from them, your eyes are very important. If you're in traditional garb you might not want to wear a lot of makeup. But you can brush your eyebrows upwards by using a clear mascara so that your eyes will look more appealing. Also, a tiny amount of hairspray on your finger will hold them in place.

6. Smile a lot and show confidence. People love to see Muslims looking cheerful. This will ultimately indicate that Muslims are very open and joyful people. It also shows off your brightness!

7. What style do you like? Sporty? Vintage? Or just your personal mix? Keep in mind that you can customize your clothes to fit the hijabi requirements

...More headscarves

Assalam aleykum sisters, thank you for the support Alhamdulilah all scarves are sold out. But inshaAllah I will bring more scarves and hijab trends after Ramadhan.
I have received a lots of comment and questions on how to wrap the stylish headscarves, so here are a few scarves that I'll try to explain how to. and further will bring a post on hijab tips inshaAllah.

With this scarf, I used a top(blouse) with bows to bring a more chic look as an under-scarf. Then you can wrap the actual scarf a bit far behind so as the bows and beauty of the under-scarf can be seen. When you wrap your headscarf make sure one side is shorter than the other one; Take the shorter side and wrap it on top of the covered bun,place it with a pin and then use the longer side to wrap half of the head and whole neck.

This is more or less the same as the first scarf except we do not use the under scarf with this style. Mind you sisters this style is not a proper hijab since Muslim sisters are supposed to cover all parts except face and hands(refer my previous post about hijab). Anyway if you want to show your earrings, chains and bangles you can do that only when you are going to female only events or you are with your husbands and maharim (relatives that can not marry you).

This is the easiest/effortless style that anyone can wear. You don't need pins with this style.This is a two side colored print scarf that can be worn anytime with any cloth and still bring that classy,fresh look on you. Wear your under scarf in whichever color that you prefer or that matches with your scarf; choose a color that you want to be on top and place your scarf a bit far from your forehead to give you under scarf an appearance. Don't forget one side should be shorter than the other,and this is the side that will be hanging from you right shoulder to your chest. take the longer side and flip it to a different color that was not selected before, bring it in front of your chest towards your head. cover your head so that you have two different layers of colors then drop down the remaining part of the scarf to the other shoulder(left) covering your chest.

Jealousy and Envy

Beloved sisters and brothers, it is not at all true that the characteristic of envy or jealousy is intrinsic to the nature of women alone; envy and jealousy is no more than an instigation of the accursed enemy of man, the Shaytaan……and both men and women are equally prone to envy and jealousy. 

Sahih Muslim Hadith 6759     Narrated by Aisha

Aisha said: ‘One day Allah's Messenger (saws) went out of her (Aisha's apartment) during the night and she felt jealous.  Then he (saws) came and he saw me (in what agitated state of mind) I was.  He (saws) said: ‘Aisha, what has happened to you? Do you feel jealous?’  Thereupon she said: ‘How can it be (that a woman like me) should not feel jealous in regard to a husband like you?’  Thereupon Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘It was your Shaytaan who had come to you’, and she said: ‘ O Allah's Messenger (saws), is there along with me a Shaytaan?’   He (saws) said: ‘Yes!’  I said: ‘Is the Shaytaan attached to everyone?’  He (saws) said: ‘Yes’.  I (Aisha) again said: ‘O Allah's Messenger (saws), is it with you also?’  He (saws) said: ‘Yes, but my Lord has helped me against him as such that I am absolutely safe from his mischief.’

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.90 Narrated by Abu Huraira

The Prophet (saws) said, "Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales; and do not look for the others' faults and do not spy, and do not be jealous of one another, and do not desert (cut your relation with) one another, and do not hate one another; and O Allah's worshipers! Be brothers (as Allah has ordered you!")

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4885  Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘Avoid jealousy, for jealousy devours good deeds just as fire devours fire-wood."

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 5039        Narrated by Az-Zubayr

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "The disease of the people before you, namely, jealousy and hatred, has crept to you, and it is the unhappy thing. I do not say that it shaves off the hair, but it shaves off the religion."

Beloved sister in Islam, jealousy and envy are the instigations of the Shaytaan, which he whispers into the hearts of man!  Allah and His Messenger (saws) have guided the believers to control their ‘nafs’ when the Shaytaan incites them to jealousy towards the favors which Allah Subhanah has Chosen to bestow upon one amongst His creation from His Infinite and Limitless Bounty.

A believer, who sincerely believes in Allah and the Last Day, should know that Allah Subhanah Alone is the Creator of everything and He Alone Bestows and Distributes His Bounties and His Favors on whomever He Wills and Pleases.   Jealousy is a state of the heart whereby one implies that he is displeased with the distribution of Allah Subhanah; and it does not behove a true believer to be displeased or dis-satisfied with any aspect of the Majestic Lord’s Will.

Jealousy is an instigation and a whispering of the Shaytaan, whereby he incites the person towards a ‘limited supply’ mentality whereby if one has something, there is not enough resources for another!  But Islam guides the believers towards the belief of ‘abundant and limitless supply’ with the Bounteous Lord, Who bestows His Mercy and Grace on whomever He Wills and Pleases. 

Jealousy is nothing more than a wish that a bounty or a favor of another should go away from them, and be given to himself!  But when one realizes that every bounty and success is from none other than Allah Subhanah, and that His Treasures are Absolutely Limitless and Unending; one would never despair of the Mercy of the Majestic Lord.  It would be more righteous for one to say that Allah Subhanah bless the person who has received the bounty or favor from The Lord Most Gracious,  and put his trust in Allah Subhanah that He is more than Able to provide for all amongst His creation.

Thus whenever one is incited by the Shaytaan towards jealousy, one should seek the refuge of Allah from the accursed enemy of man, the Shaytaan; and be constant in their recitation of the 113th and 114th Surahs of the Quran (Surah Falaq and Surah Naas); it is expected that Allah Subhanah will protect them from the whisperings of the Shaytaan.

Conversely, if ever one fears the evil effects of the envy or jealousy of another, one should immediately seek refuge in their Lord Most High against any mischief which their envy or jealousy may inspire them to cause and remain constant in the supplication of the Surah 113 Al-Falaq….it is expected that their Lord Will protect them from every harm.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chatper 113 Surah Al-Falaq verses 1-5:

1        Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Dawn

2        From the mischief of created things;

3        From the mischief of Darkness as it overspreads;

4        From the mischief of those who practice Secret Arts;

5        And from the mischief of the envious one as he practices envy.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Why should I wear Hijab?

This is a good question and there is a beautiful answer! Allah has commanded us with every action that is good for us and prohibited us from performing every action that is bad for us. Allah orders the Muslim woman to wear the hijab when she steps out of the security of her home or when in the presence of strange men. So to wear the hijab is a source of great good for you – the Muslim woman – for many reasons. Among them:

You please Allah. You are obeying the commands of your Lord when you wear the hijab and you can expect great rewards in return.
It is Allah’s protection of your natural beauty. You are too precious to be “on display” for each man to see.
It is Allah’s preservation of your chastity.

Allah purifies your heart and mind through the hijab.
Allah beautifies your inner and outer countenance with hijab. Outwardly your hijab reflects innocence, purity, modesty, shyness, serenity, contentment and obedience to your Lord. Inwardly you cultivate the same.

Allah defines your femininity through the hijab. You are a woman who respects her womanhood. Allah wants you to be respected by others, and for you to respect yourself.
Allah raises your dignity through the hijab. When a strange man looks at you, he respects you because he sees that you respect yourself.

Allah protects your honour 100% through your hijab. Men do not gaze at you in a sensual way, they do not approach you in a sensual way, and neither do they speak to you in a sensual way. Rather, a man holds you in high esteem and that is just by one glance at you!
Allah gives you nobility through the hijab. You are noble not degraded because you covered not naked.

Allah demonstrates your equality as a Muslim woman through the hijab. Your Lord bestows upon you equal worth as your male counterpart, and gives you a host of beautiful rights and liberties. You express your acceptance of these unique rights by putting on the hijab.
Allah defines your role as a Muslim woman through the hijab. You are a someone with important duties. You are a reflection of a woman of action not idle pursuits. You display your sense of direction and purpose through your hijab. You are someone that people take seriously.

Allah expresses your independence through the hijab. You are stating clearly that you are an obedient servant of the Greatest Master. You will obey no one else and follow no other way. You are not a slave to any man, nor a slave to any nation. You are free and independent from all man-made systems.
Allah gives you the freedom of movement and expression through the hijab. You are able to move about and communicate without fear of harassment. Your hijab gives you a unique confidence.
Allah wants others to treat you – a Muslim woman – with kindness. And the hijab brings about the best treatment of men towards you.

Allah wants your beauty to be preserved and saved for just one man to enjoy – your husband.
Allah helps you to enjoy a successful marriage through wearing hijab. Because you reserve your beauty for one man alone, your husband’s love for you increases, he cherishes you more, he respects you more and he honours you more. So your hijab contributes to a successful and lasting marriage relationship.

Allah brings about peace and stability in the society through the hijab! Yes this is true! Men do not cause corruption by forming illegal relationships because you – the Muslim woman – calm their passions. When a man looks at you, he feels at ease, not tempted to fornicate…
So a Muslim woman in hijab is dignified, not dishonoured, noble, not degraded, liberated, not subjugated, purified, not sullied, independent, not a slave, protected, not exposed, respected, not laughed at, confident, not insecure, obedient, not a sinner, a guarded pearl, not a prostitute…

Dear Muslim sister! Come towards the gates of Paradise with us! Fulfill your duties towards Allah, put on your adornment – put on your hijab, and race towards Jannah (Paradise) by doing all good actions. You should agree by now that wearing hijab is extremely beneficial – it must be – because Allah only commands what is good…
…and believe me dear sister, it is good to obey the commands of your Lord…

“Their reward is with their Lord: Gardens of Eden underneath which rivers flow wherein they will dwell for ever; Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him; this is (in store) for whoever fears his Lord.” [Sooratul-Bayyinah 98:8]
